DO Jumilla Murcia

To speak of the Jumilla Denomination of Origin is to speak of the “Monastrell” variety, this being the grape variety that has best adapted over time to the climatic and soil conditions of this denomination and that gives the character to its wines; This variety represents more than 80% of the vineyards of the appellation.

The Monastrell variety, is a strain of Spanish origin, it is found throughout the Mediterranean coast, being the third most planted variety in Spain.
The Monastrell strain is erect, with thick and short shoots with little branching, its leaf has a pentagonal blade, with three marked lobes. Its clusters are small or medium-sized and quite compact, with medium-sized spherical berries, blue-black in color, with thick skin rich in anthocyanins; Its pulp is fleshy and soft with little amount of tannins.

It is a variety of great rusticity and high resistance to drought, it needs good insolation. It has a medium-high sensitivity to mildew and powdery mildew, it is very resistant to excoriation, gray rot and moth, presenting high resistance to phylloxera.

-Inks: Cencibel, Garnacha Tintorera, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot.
-Whites: Airen, Macabeo, Pedro Ximénez, Malvasía, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscatel of small grain
